The fifth edition at a glance

The Al Fozan Foundation for Community Service announced the winners of the fifth Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture at a ceremony attended by architects, academics and mosque-architecture specialists from the Kingdom and abroad.

678 projects from 14 countries competed in this edition. 96 made the shortlist before the jury settled on winners that pair authenticity with innovation and keep the mosque at the heart of its community.

How the winners were chosen

Projects went through rigorous judging: of 678 entries from 14 countries, 96 were shortlisted and assessed by a panel of architecture experts on authenticity and innovation, the mosque's role in its community, and the sustainability of the design.

About the award and its mission

Held every three years since its launch in 2011, the award aims to elevate contemporary mosque architecture worldwide and to encourage designs that balance identity, function and sustainability. Since its first edition it has honoured 19 winners from around the world.

Part of the Wellbeing domain

The award belongs to the foundation's Wellbeing domain, which enriches the built environment and celebrates art and culture, out of the belief that quality of life is a right that helps communities flourish.
